The renewal equation, borrowed from the theory of stochastic processes, models a simple phenomenon: a system that transforms only through its own disturbances.

The system does not evolve through continuity, but through successive rewritings of itself. Each fault, each rupture, becomes a necessary condition for its recomposition.
